The Thonet chair project is a project where I started to work with the notion of fluidity as a concept to redesign it.
I openned the chair to used it as a physical mould for my redesign. This first transformation allowed me to cast tin inside of the real chair. All along this project, the process it self became more interesting than the final result. The melting technique of turning one object into a liquid material, and solidifying it again into a form made me think of the reason why an object should keep the same shape their whole life.
In this project I transformed jars, plates, vases, etc into mateial (liquid tin) and this material, into a chair and than I’ll bring the chair to the metal junkyard to let the transformation go over the years, being melted and transformed into different objects/shapes.
To freeze in time one of the shapes of this constant process of transformation I took a picture of this material in the solid shape of my redesigned Thonet Chair
